My current makeup routine, step by step
Whenever I post on my stories with some makeup on, I get a bunch of DM’s asking if I can do a makeup tutorial. Let me start off by saying I am NOT a professional LOL. I probably don’t do certain things correctly, but this works for me 🙂 I uploaded an IGTV video showcasing each step here.
#1 LOTION (ELF) || I put lotion all over my face before I put my primer on or anything else. My face tends to get really dry in every season, so if I do not put lotion on, my nose and cheeks will dry up and peel under my makeup && we don’t want that. It’s extremely weird lol. I have tried various hydrating lotions and have used the ELF one for almost a year now. Not only is it super affordable, but it does the job.
#2 FACE PRIMER PRIMER || I pat/rub this onto under my eyes and by my nose (underneath near my lip), on my chin, and a little on my forehead. It helps to hold my makeup and hide my larger pores. This primer has by far been the best one I have tried. I have been loving Tula products and this was no exception.
#3 FOUNDATION || Wearing the shade “465” when I have no tan and “490” when I have that sun kissed glow. I kind of just put some all over my face and neck and buff it in with this brush. I have tried using beauty blenders, but I do not get the same effect I do if I buff it in with a brush. I also bring the excess to my chest area if I am wearing a lower cut shirt. I find that I do not apply it as evenly with a beauty blender, than I do with a brush. Also, Jamie (@makeupbyjaysaunz) talked about this foundation on her story and then I saw Tricia (@hairby_trici) and she was wearing it, and I knew I needed to try it. It has the best wear and is such an amazing formula.
#5 CONCEALER || I use the shade “Light Beige.” I just started using like two months ago and prefer it over shape tape. I apply my concealer under my eyes, on the sides of my nose, under my nose, on my chin, on the top of my nose, and on my forehead; all in the shape of a triangle. I then damp my beauty blender, with this setting spray and buff/dab the concealer in to blend it into my face.
#6 SETTING POWDER || I use the shade “Translucent” to set my concealer! This has by far been the best one I have tried and used. I apply it with the same beauty blender I applied my concealer with here. I apply it to every place I put the concealer, as well as around my mouth because I get crease lines there. After 5 or so minutes, I wipe it off with a brush. No specific one, but I usually use one like this.
#7 BRONZER & CONTOUR || To apply my contour, I make a fish face and apply the bronzer to my cheek bones to make them look more defined. I then apply it on my forward and jawline. You end up applying it like the number 3. I then do the side of my nose and a small line across the bridge of my nose. I use this brush to apply the bronzer on my face and this brush (the largest one) to apply it to my cheeks bones, forehead, and jawline. I use either this brush set to contour my nose and then use the other brush in it to blend it out. I also sometimes use a foundation stick to just add a bit to the look before doing it with my bronzer, with this in “F11”
#8 BLUSH || Wearing shade “Berry Amore” which is my favorite! I love the baked blushes because they give me the best color. I apply this to the apple of my cheeks and towards my contour. I use the brush all the way to the right in this pack to apply the blush.
# EYES (PALETTE, PRIMER, TAPE) || I use the Huda Beauty or the Carli Bybel palette (which is no longer for sale) on a daily basis. Because I have brown eyes, I have found that pinks, purples, etc work best to really make my eyes pop. So first I use the eye primer. Then I will blend the “COLOR” and “COLOR” into my crease using this brush. Once I have a good base color I like, I then do the outside corners of my eyes with a brown or black eyeshadow to give it a slight smokey eye effect with this brush. Then, I use this brush (and wet it with my setting spray) to get some glitter or pigment onto the lid of my eye. Wetting it prior to using glitter or more pigmented eyeshadows will really glop it on for the brighter effect. Lastly I will put a little but more of the darker brown or black onto the end of my eye lid again and blend it using this brush.
#9 EYELINERS (BOTTOM, TOP) || I use a liquid eyeliner on the top lid and a regular pencil for the bottom lid. My eyes are extremely sensitive, and these are the only two that have not bothered me. To get a winged look, I tend to follow my eyelid up and just hope for the best LOL.
#10 MASCARA (CURLER, PRIMER, MAIN, MAGNETIC LASHES) || First I use the lash curler on both eyes. I then use the primer to really extend my lashes out as much as possible. I usually put it on one eye, top and bottom, and then put it on the other. Once they both have it, I go back to the first eye and put mascara on then do to the other so it gives the primer a chance to dry a little. Then, I use the magnetic lashes, if I want that extra boom, since I can’t apply lashes with glue (I literally just don’t get how people do it! It is so hard LOL), and my eyes are too sensitive to get extensions.
#11 HIGHLIGHTER || I am obsessed with Kylie Cosmetic’s highlighters. I have three of them and literally use them all the time. I use this brush to apply it to the bridge of my nose, the tip of my nose, above my eyebrow, right under my eyebrow, above my top lip, and above my cheekbones.
#13 SETTING SPRAY || I spray this all over my face once my makeup is complete. It helps to set it and keep it looking matte.
Hope this helps! You can also head to my instagram to watch me apply it on IGTV <3
