Travel Guide: Athens, Greece

Every year my family & I usually go on a trip all together, and I always look forward to it. It makes me feel like I am a kid again. We usually go to Aruba since we have timeshare, but we went to Greece this time around (second time!). We were so excited to go to Greece again and believe me, we all had count downs going on! Anyway, my brother and I did a ton of research to figure out what islands we wanted to go to and where to stay. When we went in 2016, we visited Athens, Naxos (our fave!), and Santorini. We actually got our engagement pictures done in Santorini, and it was so worth it! But, we always start off our trip in Athens.

Anyway, Athens is not only the capital of Greece, but also the place with the most Ancient History. You fly into Athens, and it has so much history. I love seeing the history and the ruins because it is part of me and who I am. I personally wouldn’t suggest staying in Athens too long. It should be more of a hub to stay a night and then travel to the islands. My family and I stayed there for a few days because we had a wedding, but you don’t want to stay more than one or two nights since there is so much more to see. But, I am going to share some fun places to see, places to eat, and where we stayed.

Another thing you can do is take day trips to areas outside of Athens. I will touch up Lake Vouliameni in Places to see below. We went there for the wedding and I highly recommend checking it out. It was gorgeous!

I am going to do a round up of my outfits first and then will share the rest 🙂

  • Visit the Acropolis – Make sure to bring your walking shoes, because it’s a hike but so worth it. This was honestly the highlight of my time in Athens (other than watching the changing of the guards). You have to do some walking to get there, but once you do, seeing the history and the beauty it still has is well worth it. Make sure to bring your phone or camera because the views on the top are stunning.
  • Go to the Plaka – If you are looking for a village feel, this is the spot to be. I love the Plaka because it makes me feel like I am living through history of where my grandparents grew up. They grew up on islands, but the village feel is the same. When I am in Greece I miss then 10x more, and it makes me feel at peace and at home. The Plaka has the cutest shops and is the perfect place to get some souvenirs. I found some of the cutest souvenirs and bracelets to bring home! I also love their Grecian dresses and clothing.
  • Visit Lake Vouliagmeni – Take a day trip or a night stay trip to Lake Vouliagmeni. It is seriously STUNNING, and a perfect little getaway out of the craziness of Athens. It is about 35-40 minutes outside of Athens and you can either rent a car and drive there or take a cab.
  • Visit the Hellenic Parliament – Outside of the parliament is where the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is, and they have The Greek Presidential Guards there 24/7, the Evzones. They are in their traditional Greek Uniforms, and you can see their traditional ceremony for changing of the guards. You can also take pictures with them, but they will not smile and you cannot touch them. It really is impressive and nice to see. It was originally a palace but is now the house of parliament.

Honestly I purposely didn’t take notes or pictures of anything because everywhere in the Plaka or Monostaraki has excellent restaurants and food. Mine main favorites in Greece are Moussaka, Grilled Octopus, Gyro, Souvlaki and so much more.

ACROPOLIS GEM: This AirBNB was seriously so nice. We usually stay at hotels while we are here, but opted for an airbnb since there were so many of us. This comfortably fit 7 of us, with 4 beds and 2 baths. The place was literally immaculate and so nice. Everything was so clean and we enjoyed the view from the balcony. It had a gorgeous view of the Acropolis from the the dining area, the balcony, and one of the bed rooms. It also was within walking distance to Plaka and Monostaraki.

ATHENS MANSION LUXURY SUITES: Ok this place was seriously gorgeous and we will be back here for sure. This is in a part of Athens that they are trying to rebuild with a stunning view of the Acropolis. Right now there are a ton of abandoned buildings in Athens that have Graffitti all over it and this was one of them until they fixed it up. They hope to do the same with all the surrounding buildings and re-build them like they use to be. Anyway, it is stunning and I highly recommend it. They have good & Free breakfast on the rooftop in the morning, and good food throughout the day for purchase with a full bar. So gorgeous!

Happy Tuesday!

I hope those of you in cold weather are bundling up because it’s a cold one today! As the weather continues to transition, I love finding ways to still wear “summer” items during the various seasons. One thing I absolutely love, is layering pieces over summer dresses! Depending on the dress and items used, you can make such a cute outfit.

I couldn’t get over how cute this plaid dress was and knew I had to find a way to wear it in the fall, so I thought this adorable sweater at franscesca’s and decided to layer them with some OTK boots. The dress is from SHEIN, so see my post about sizing here (wearing a size medium here and it’s not super tight) and the sweater is slightly big so I would size down (wearing a small).

I knew this sweater would be so cute layered and I’m so glad it is. Other ways you can wear it would be over a collared shirt for work or ever with jeans and a leather jacket with some booties for a date night. Loving how versatile these pieces are!

What pieces in your closet do you love layering?

Fancy Two-Piece Sweat Set

Two Piece // Chunky Necklace – similar here & here // Shoes -similar here & here

I am all about the two-piece sets lately. I used to hate how they looked on me but lately I am LIVING for them! I especially love this red two-piece sweat set from SheIn! I love off-the-shoulder clothing, so this was right up my alley. I paired this outfit with a chunky necklace and heeled sandals. I also think that it could easily be paired with a pair of chuck taylors for a cute casual look.

For sizing, I usually always size up on their items unless the comments and review say otherwise. I also have large hips so even if items are sweat pants I tend to size up so I went even bigger and went for a large from their site. It was actually big so I ended up re-ordering the outfit in a size M. So, I would say it is pretty TTS for this outfit.

Do you like two-piece outfits?

“Wow” is the only word that comes to mind about this sweater. It is so insanely gorgeous and is my new favorite duster sweater. I can’t get over the sleeves with the cute little tie. This is a perfect sweater for any season since it is not too heavy and looks cute with a dress, a skirt, jeans, or anything really. I’M OBSESSED, and I think you will be too!

Funny story about these pictures though.. I usually shoot outfits on Sunday’s but the weather on Sunday’s has been extremely gross and overcast with some rain so we have not had the chance to take some shots. I really wanted to show you guys this sweater and couldn’t wait any longer so I had my dad take some pictures of me in front of the fireplace so I apologize for the scenery. But, like I said, I couldn’t wait to show you guys the sweater and needed to just take some pictures in it no matter where it was!

I spoke about this skirt in a recent post. it was from banana republic from last year and no longer on their site but I linked a few above that are similar and just as cute.

Nina

Happy Friday! Hope everyone had a wonderful week. It has been quite a busy one for me. As I have mentioned before I am an auditor that works for a public accounting firm and our crunch time is currently happening. I promise I will be even more active on here as well as my instagram once this craziness is done!

I have posted a few items from SheIn a bunch of times and have received a lot of questions about their website, the clothing quality, and sizing. So, I figured I would do my top 20 favorite SheIn items that I am currently crushing on or have to help you guys out.

I have been shopping here for over two years. I absolutely love their clothing and can find a lot of things a bit cheaper on here than on any other site or store. Let me give you the run down on sizing and details of orders:

  1. Sizing – I never order my usual size in the US unless the measurements line up. Depending on the clothing in the US I could be a size Small or Medium. On SheIn, sometimes I am ordering a size L. I suggest looking at the measurements below every size and seeing what size is your actual measurements before buying anything. I always look at my measurements compared to their sizing and buy based off that. Sometimes the sizing matches up perfectly, but other times it does not.
  2. Material – I usually never purchase items unless it has at least 5 reviews. That way I know the material is worth the purchase. I have never purchased anything that I did not like material wise! I would suggest buying things that have reviews so that you know it is good. See below for the return policy.
  3. Return – Even if you do not like something, you can return all items other than lingerie, swimwear, and items like that. I have actually purchased a few things with no reviews because they are new on the site and loved them! You do have to pay for the return shipping but it is worth it.

I have the white/black scalloped bathing suit in a medium and it fits perfectly and it is super cute! I also have a similar hat to the one pictures that I bought from here that is no longer available but the sequins do not fall off and it is made very well. Lastly out of this list, I just perfect that cute little bag, and cannot wait to get it!

I hope this post helps! If you have any other questions about the site, please let me know. I would not post anything I did not truly believe in or was not 100% honest about. I absolutely love this site and their items! Happy Shopping!
